The police have arrested a youth after a management student of a private university in Sonepat district was allegedly gang-raped by three students of the varsity on Friday.

The victim (19), a second-year student of five-year MBA (integrated) course, hails from New Delhi. The accused have been identified as Hardik, Vikas and Karan, all residents of Sonepat. The police have arrested Hardik (21) while Vikas and Karan are absconding.

“A student of a private university has filed a complaint against three students for allegedly gang-raping her on the university campus on Friday night,” investigation officer assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sudesh Kumari said.

“The victim said she knew Hardik for more than one year. On Friday night, Hardik along with his two friends came to meet the girl on the campus and raped her. We are trying to talk to the university management but they are not available,” the investigation officer said.

Sonepat deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sunil Kumar said, “The victim approached the police along with her parents and filed the complaint. Hardik, one of the accused, is senior to the victim.”

The accused have been booked under Section 376-D and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the DSP said.
