Sufi maestro Hans Raj Hans casts a spell on city audience

Attired in black pathan suit, Hans Raj Hans, an acclaimed sufi artist known for his humility, established an instant rapport with listeners right from the opening lines of 'Rakho mori laaj garib nawaz.....' and in no time left the audience spellbound.
Blessed with spontaneity, the sufi singer mesmerised the audience with his jugalbandi with the flutist inviting a huge round of applause and not to miss the 'bandish' 'badal garje', which transcended the audience to some other world.
Hans paid tributes to Manna D, Mehdi Hassan, Reshma, Jagjit Singh by devoting his initial songs to them. The programme was organised by Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust, an NGO working for various social, educational and cultural causes.
Girls from Sat Paul Mittal School dressed in white and red costumes danced to the tunes of famous Hindi song 'Sajda'.
Listeners from every section of society were part of the programme and most of them, who could not get seats, were seen standing happily and enjoying every moment of the sufi night.
Sharing his experience, Harsh, a young college student said: "I had requested Hans Raj Hans to sing two popular Punjabi numbers, but the sufi songs stirred my soul so much that I forgot about my choice of songs."
From soft compositions such as 'Garaj baras pyasi dharti par phir paani de maula' to the lively 'Mere Sahiba we mein teri ho chuki aa', every song unveiled the versatility of the singer.
Budding singers, undergoing training under their respective 'Gurus', were overwhelmed to listen to the maestro and were seen touching the stage, when Hans left the auditorium.
The evening reached its peak with the song from Hindi movie 'Kache Dhaage'-'Khaali dil nai jaan vi e mangda, ishq di gali vicho koi koi langda' and 'Nit khair manga sohniya mein teri dua na koi hor mangdi'.
