Suicide by a commission agent, Jaspal Setia, 58, in Amritsar has given a new twist to the mysterious disappearance of 36-year-old SAS Nagar businessman Karan Arora, owner of an immigration consultancy company. Sources said Arora owed money to Jaspal and the latter ended his life after coming to know about the disappearance.
The Amritsar police recovered the body of Jaspal, a resident of Vrindavan Gardens in Amritsar, from the railway tracks near Vallah railway crossing on Saturday. Though the GRP is probing whether Jaspal’s death was an accident or a suicide, sources in the SAS Nagar police claimed that Jaspal had committed suicide.
Police sources say financial liabilities were the main reason behind the disappearance of Arora, who allegedly owed about `10 crore to bookies and arhatiyas.
Karan Arora, a resident of Chhapar Chiri Khurd village in SAS Nagar, has been missing since Wednesday while his car with blood stains and a broken windowpane was recovered 500metre away from his house on Thursday morning.
Arora, who had close links with high-profile people, including a number of IAS and IPS officers of Punjab and Chandigarh, had left to attend a party but did not return.
Sources added that Arora had recently lost `10 crore while betting during a cricket match.
Police sources said Jaspal had come to Kharar to meet Arora when he was told that he had been ‘kidnapped’. Sources said Jaspal was under pressure from different money lenders, thus he committed suicide.
