Taking stock of the construction work of a plaza opposite the Golden Temple on Saturday, Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal directed to officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) to formulate a master plan for the construction of a 10-lane ring road around the city.

The deputy CM, who paid obeisance at the Golden Temple along with wife and MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, said: "It is very important to have such plan to cater the needs of lakhs of pilgrims. The ring road will be a big help in years to come."

Earlier, deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat and PWD executive engineer Jasbir Singh Sodhi informed the deputy CM about the progress of the construction work. The plaza has partially used by the pilgrims.
While reviewing the progress of the entrance, Sukhbir said the shops around the Darbar Sahib would be vacated. There would be no compromise with the beautification around the Harmandar Sahib, he elaborated.

Directing the officers to execute those development projects that are already commissioned, Sukhbir asked them to initiate the construction of roads at the earliest.

He also asked the deputy commissioner to hold regular weekly meetings with the departments concerned and expedite the construction work within a stipulated time frame.

He directed municipal commissioner DPS Kharbanda to ensure complete hygiene and cleanliness around the Golden Sahib.
