Senior economist Sukhpal Singh has been appointed as new head of the department of economics and sociology at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
Singh has about 25 years of academic experience and has made remarkable research contributions in the field of rural economy. His extensive survey reports regarding farmers and agricultural labour suicides in six districts of Punjab has helped the state government to provide compensation to the families of suicide victims.
Singh has written seven books, six research manuals, over 100 research and extension papers and 40 research reports. As editor-in-chief of the journal, Agricultural Development and Policy, he has explored several contemporary issues of agricultural economics in the changing world economic order.
He has won several awards, including International Fellowship Award, Anna Mitra Saha Prize Award, Agro Scientist Award-2013, and Dr MS Randhawa Best Book Award and has played an active role in policy formulation relating to the Punjab agriculture.
"It gives me an immense pleasure to take over a new position which is armed with many responsibilities and duties. I will ensure to give my best," stated Singh.
