Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar has come down heavily on the Shiromani Akali Dal after the recent attack on a senior police officer in Ludhiana allegedly by the former Youth Akali Dal men.

In a press release issued here on Wednesday, Jakhar said, "It vindicates the Congress stand that Youth Akali Dal chief Bikramjit Singh Majithia and his men are nothing but criminals."

Jakhar said, "While the police spokesman is trying to pass off the incident as a brawl, the fact is that the attacker and his henchmen knew the police officer well and fearlessly attacked him and broke his leg to instil fear in him."

He alleged, "The SAD spokesperson has disowned the accused, whereas Sunny, one of the accused, was in the company of Majithia in Ludhiana hours before the incident."

He demanded that the mobile phone details of Sunny and his men and the CCTV footage must be made public to unravel the truth.

Jakhar alleged that chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had lost grip over the administration and the multi-power centres within the government were working at cross-purposes, undermining governance in the state.

"In order to restore people's faith in governance, Badal must rise to the occasion and divest Majithia of his ministry," he said.
