Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has appealed to the Punjabis, especially the youths, to vote for a better government to make a better India. Deol, who here held a roadshow in support of SAD candidate Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa , said: “I am here to appeal you to vote for a better government which will make a better India”.

The roadshow started from Lehragaga, represented by former senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, and ended in Barnala covering Sunam, Sangrur, Dhuri, Malerkotla and Mehal Kalan.

During the roadshow, Sunny Deol did not “openly” appeal his fans to vote for Dhindsa, but thanked the people standing on the roadside.

Sunny Deol stood in an open vehicle along with finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Punjabi film actor Gugu Gill.

Though, Sunny Deol did not speak in favour of any political outfit, his association with the BJP is an open secret as his father and actor Dharmendra, too contested and won elections on the BJP ticket from Bikaner in 2004.

Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, who is eyeing a cabinet berth if the NDA is voted to power, had reportedly arranged nearly 4,000 bikes and cars to make the roadshow impressive.

Some bikers, on the condition of anonymity, told the Hindustan Times that, petrol slips worth Rs 400 were issued to every participant through the sarpanches. Long queues of bikers could be seen at every petrol station since early morning.

Lehra SDM-cum-assistant returning officer, Bakhtawar Singh said: “Following complaints, we have raided petrol stations in the constituency and collected slips amounting to more than Rs 1 lakh.

These slips were purchased last night. Now this amount will be included in the expenditure of the SAD candidate.”
