Former Punjab chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) and former SAD MLA Surinder Singh Dhuri is in for more trouble as the court of additional sessions judge AB Batra here on Friday rejected his application for anticipatory bail.

Dhuri, along with his wife and nephew, has been booked under section 61 of the Punjab Excise Act for selling liquor without permission.

After the rejection of the bail application, Dhuri is likely to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court for bail.

When asked about the police failure to arrest him, Sadar police house officer Deepender Pal Singh said, "the police were waiting for further recovery in this case and we will arrest him soon."

He, however, refused to give details what the investigation so far or whether they have interrogated him or not.

The police had registered a case against Dhuri Sadar police station against five people including Dhuri, his wife Inderjit Kaur, nephew Aman and two others Manpreet Singh and Jaspreet Singh.

Manpreet Singh and Jaspreet Singh were arrested for possessing 108 bottles of country-made liquor.

They had told the police that they had purchased the bottles of liquor from Dhuri's residence. But so far the police have failed to arrest the political heavyweight who is considered an influential leader of the region.
