Surrey shooting spree: Nephew of NDP MLA Harry Bains killed

Nephew of Surrery based New Democratic Party MLA Harry Bains was killed in a shooting spree in Surrey .

Arun Paul Singh Bains, 22, found dead at 126th Street and 88A Avenue in Surrey was known to be associated with the people connected with the street-level, drug-trade conflict.

Including Sunday's incident there have been as many as 23 shootings in Surrey and Delta in the last 38 days, with a number of them linked to the conflict.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is looking for the help of anyone who might have been in the area where Bains was found at around 3 a.m. The area around the most recent crime scene had to be closed temporarily for the probe, said the IHIT's Sgt. Stephanie Ashton.

"Police were called just after3 a.m. when residents heard what they thought were gun shots fired," said Ashton. "Upon attendance they found one male, who was rushed to hospital and succumbed to his injuries."

A car that crashed into a pole at the scene is believed to be related to the murder.

The recent spate of shootings has resulted in police and city officials organizing a public forum for Tuesday to discuss the situation. The forum goes at 7 p.m. at Tamanawis Secondary School at 12600-66th Ave.
