Swine flu toll rises to 10 in Haryana; positive cases 68

With two more deaths during the past two days, the toll due to swine flu has risen to 10 in Haryana while as many as 68 H1N1 positive cases have been reported in the state so far.

According to official information, Rekha, 26, a resident of Rewari who was pregnant, died at the PGIMS, Rohtak on Wednesday night while Satish Kumar of Karnal died at PGI, Chandigarh on Tuesday.

Last week, Seema, 38, wife of Bhanu Pratap, a resident of Bhiwani, died of swine flu at a private hospital in Hisar.
Meanwhile, chief secretary DS Dhesi reviewed the measures taken by the health department to check the swine flu cases and directed them to be vigilant in this regard.

Officials said that as many as 68 positive cases of H1N1 virus had so far been reported, while 10 patients had died in Haryana.

The officials said that since most of the swine flu cases were reported from private hospitals, the government had directed them to keep it informed about all the patients coming to them with symptoms of the disease.

The health teams immediately approached the family members of the deceased and successfully treated the ones found positive in the family, the officials said and added that awareness was also being disseminated that all patients having swine flu symptoms must immediately approach the doctor and start treatment in case they test positive.

They maintained that the health department had adequate arrangements for the treatment of patients suffering from swine
flu and that a sufficient stock of Tamiflu medicine was available, ventilators had been provided and isolation wards set up in all hospitals in the state.
