Chief judicial magistrate Akshdeep Mahajan on Monday sentenced a chef at Taj Chandigarh, Sector 17, to one year in prison after holding him guility of preparing, storing and selling food articles in unhygienic conditions.

Neeraj Chaudhary of Sector 37, who is also a beverages manager at the five-star hotel, was convicted under Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules, 1955.

Food inspector Surinder Pal Singh had submitted that during an inspection on the hotel premises on September 8, 2010, Chaudhary was found preparing, storing and selling food articles in unhygienic conditions.

The defence counsel had contended that a senior Chandigarh administration officer had revengefully got a false case lodged against the chef as he was served a food bill.
