The Dal Khalsa takes a dig at Punjab government for extending VIP treatment to one of its former minister Bibi Jagir Kaur, who is in jail after being convicted in conspiracy charges of carrying forcible abortion of her daughter Harpreet Kaur 12 years back.
Party's secretary for human rights Pritpal Singh said Punjab government was violating constitutional promise of equality before rule of law by extending VIP treatment to Jagir Kaur lodged in Kapurthala jail.
Blaming the jail ministry for flouting the norms, he said it was only in India, where political bigwigs and rich were considered above the law.
He urged Punjab Governor to take suo motu notice of violation of norms by jail authorities. Slamming Jagir Kaur for showing no remorse, he said she must resign from the membership of the SGPC.
Even if the Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1925 is silent on the issue, she should resign on moral grounds. "Her stubbornness to continue as SGPC member will bring disgrace to the apex institution of the Sikhs", he pointed out.
He criticised the Badal government for prolonging the detention of Sikh leaders including Khalsa Action Committee chairman Bhai Mohkam Singh, Bhai Daljit Singh, SS Mann and others on flimsy grounds.
