Based on the feedback from the last sangat darshan (public contact) programme, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday asked field officers to take potable water to people in the scarcity-hit villages.

Presiding over a high-level meeting at his residence here to review the water-supply and sanitation schemes, Badal directed Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) to release the state’s contribution of Rs 82 crore to a World Bank project for improving 4,700 water-supply schemes in 6,500 villages.

The CM gave the water supply department two months to complete this project. He also asked the PIDB to release Rs 20 crore as special fund for the maintenance of waterworks in the Kandi (sub-mountainous) area so give its inhabitants a regular supply of clean drinking water.
