A minor fire reportedly broke out at the Talwandi Sabo Power Limited on Monday night. Accoring to Mansa SDM Kala Ram Kansal, the conveyor belt on which coal is transported to the steamer caught fire on Friday night.

“The power plant officials controlled the fire but the power production was shut. They are trying to restore power generation. There was no casualty in the incident,” the SDM said. Deputy commissioner Dharam Pal Gupta said that he didn’t visit the plant as it was an “internal issue”.

The company has its own fire brigade vehicle which extinguished fire which started at around 11 pm on Monday night.

Company spokesperson Dr Vishal Agarwal said the conveyor belt got burnt and damaged on Monday night. “Around 25 metres of the conveyor belt caught fire due to high temperature. The belt carries coal to the furnace and due to the damage, power generation has been stoped. The financial loss will be ascertained later,” he said.
