A day after a 15-year-old girl approached the police alleging rape by her former school senior, the Amritsar city police arrested 21-year-old Sumeet Kumar, alias Pathan, and 29-year-old Deepika, both residents of Sultanwind Road, on charges of raping a 17-year-old girl.

However, the police are yet to arrest 65-year-old Manjit Kaur, also a resident of Sultanwind Road and another accused in the case.

A case has been registered against Deepika, Sumeet Kumar and Manjit Kaur on the victim's complaint under Sections 366, 366-A, 376, 506 and 120-B of the IPC.

According to sources, Kumar is the son of a tantrik. They added that Deepika used to work as a domestic help in the victim's paternal aunt's house and shared a good rapport with the family of the tantrik.

Sources added that Deepika's parents used to earn their living by working in a shop. In a complaint lodged with the police, the victim alleged that on June 9 at 4pm, Deepika allegedly called her at Chaurasti Attari and took her to Kumar's house.

She alleged that Kumar offered her a soft drink laced with drugs, following which she started feeling giddy. Later, Kumar allegedly took her to Manjit Kaur's house, where Kumar allegedly raped her. She told Deepika about it, but she asked her to keep quiet and not disclose the matter to anyone.

The accused also threatened Manjit with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
ASI Ashok Singh of the E division police station said the victim had been asked to bring a birth certificate to verify her claim of being a 17-year-old.

"The girl has been medically examined and two of the accused have been arrested," he said. He added that efforts were being made to confirm the involvement of Manjit, who was an elderly woman, in the case.

Meanwhile, no arrests have been made in the Thursday's rape case involving a 15-year-old girl and her former school senior, who is the son of a police personnel.

Sources said the police have asked the victim to produce a birth certificate to verify her claim of being a minor.
