Hundreds of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers led by Kartar Singh Pehalwan, party candidate from Tarn Taran assembly segment, staged a dharna outside SSP office here against the alleged atrocities being committed by ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders against the party volunteers.

In protest against thrashing of party leaders and registration of “false” cases in the district, the dharna started at around 12.00 pm and lasted for many hours. The party volunteers shouted slogans against the ruling party.

While addressing the protesters, Kartar Singh said the SAD leaders were frustrated and harassing the party rank and file through various methods. “On direction of the ruling party leaders, the police are slapping false cases to supress them. Such dirty tricks cannot discourage them as public is in their support”, he added.

Manjinder Singh Sidhu, youth leader of the party, said that party worker Sukhdev Singh was beaten up by Akalis at Gaggobuha village for his move to seek information regarding financial grant under RTI Act. He said police slapped false cases against part volunteer Jugraj Singh, adding that another volunteer based in Machhike village was thrashed by SAD leaders.

The protesters lifted the stir after the Police officials assured them to take action against those responsible.
