Tarn Taran: Armed robbers open fire at jeweller, loot cash worth Rs 50,000
As per the Kaptan’s brother, one of the robbers pointed a gun at the victim and shot but failed as the bullet jammed in the trigger.
Four unidentified robbers looted a jewellery shop at Dhand village, 30 km from the district headquarters on Thursday. The robbers after shooting at the jeweller decamped with Rs 50,000 cash.
Jeweller Kaptan Singh,25, of Chabhal has been rushed to the Baba Budha Sahib Charitable Hospital. But was later on referred to an Amirtsar based hospital because of serious injuries on his left leg.
Kaptan’s brother Simranjit Singh said, “My grandfather Gurdeep Singh and Kaptan opened the shop at around 9.30 am on Thursday.” Four robbers with covered faces, came to the shop and started threatening my brother to open the gold safe but he resisted, said his brother.
He said, “One of the robbers put a gun on Kaptan and tried to fire a straight shot but failed as the bullet jammed in the trigger.”
Kaptan tried to overpower the robbers.But another robber shot at his leg and he fell down,”said Simranjit. After injuring my brother, they stole Rs 50,000 and fled, he said.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Pyara Singh reached the spot with and started the investigation. The DSP said, “A case under Section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the IPC and 25, 27, 54, 49 of Arms Act has been registered against unidentified robbers at Sarai Amanat Khan police station.”
“We are examining the CCTV camera footages to identify the robbers and all the accused will be arrested soon,” he said.
