Following its assurance to the Supreme Court that it will take strong action in the case of assault on a woman by some policemen outside a marriage palace in Tarn Taran on March 3, the Punjab government has shifted Tarn Taran SSP Kamaljit Singh Dhillon, dismissed two cops involved in the incident and sent Tarn Taran city police station SHO sub-inspector Sukhbir Singh to the police lines.

Dhillon has been posted as commandant of the 5th Battalion of the Punjab Armed Police at Bahadurgarh. Gurdaspur SSP Rajjit Singh has been sent to Tarn Taran in Dhillon's place. Pathankot SSP Surinder Kalia has been given the additional charge of Gurdaspur.

The two dismissed cops, including constable Saraj Singh and head constable Davinder Kumar, were seen assaulting the 22-year-old woman from Usma village with batons in a video clip recorded by a bystander. Facing criminal charges, they are currently in judicial custody.
