While assistant sub-inspector Simranbir Singh, Tarn Taran crime investigation department (CID) computer operator, remains missing, his father, former sub-inspector Jasbir Singh, on Monday moved the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes.
In a meeting with commission vice-chairman Raj Kumar Verka, Jasbir Singh, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra in 1995 and is out on parole, said he feared that the people who wanted revenge had abducted his son. "Old enmity seems to be behind the abduction. The police should investigate seriously," said Verka.

With Jasbir Singh were retired police officers who had fought terrorists in the militancy days of Punjab but were now caught in inquiries and court cases. "Huge efforts are on to get terrorists out of jail but no one is willing to hear out the former police officers who fought them," said Verka.

He called for security arrangements for former cops, who had fought against terrorists, seeking conclusion of cases against them and pardon for them. "A report in this regard would be sent to the President of India, Prime Minister and Home Secretary so that these people can get justice at this stage in their lives," he said.
