A Class-4 was left with broken teeth and a bruised face on Tuesday after her teacher allegedly punished her for failing to count numbers.

Jaspreet Kaur, 9, was admitted to the Bhunga primary health centre. She is a student of government elementary school, Hariana.

Jaspreet’s mother, Gurdip Kaur, said the girl was “too scared to speak” after returning home with injuries on her face and limbs.

She said the girl’s sister, who studies at the same school, told her Jaspreet was beaten up by her teacher after she could not count.

“The teacher had also warned her against reporting the matter to her parents,” Gurdip claimed, alleging her daughters had been physically punished at the school in the past as well.

District education officer (elementary) Balbir Singh visited the hospital on Tuesday evening. He said he had marked an enquiry to the block education officer and promised action against the teacher if the allegations were proved.

The teacher could not be contacted for comment.
