A drawing teacher posted at Government High School, Sarspur, near Dhariwal in Gurdaspur district, has been placed under suspension for his alleged obscene behaviour with girl students.
The girl students have complained to their parents about indecent behaviour of their drawing teacher Gurjit Singh, who reportedly used to write “I love you” on their drawing books.
According to the girls, the teacher also used to pass “vulgar” remarks at them.
When the parents brought the matter to the notice of headmaster Gurbachan Singh, he sought an explanation from the teacher on Thursday.Gurjit Singh purportedly admitted to his misconduct, and requested the headmaster to forgive him assuring that he would not behave in such a manner in future.
The headmaster, however, referred the matter to Gurdaspur district education officer (secondary) Amardeep Singh Saini, who taking a serious note of his misconduct suspended him immediately.
The DEO also marked an inquiry into the matter by deputy education officer (secondary) Santokh Raj Singh.
The deputy DEO rushed to the school to make on the spot inquiry into the accusation, and recorded statements of several girl students of Classes 9 and 10 and all the 14 members of the school staff, including five women teachers.
When contacted, Saini told Hindustan Times that the deputy DEO had been ordered to conduct a departmental inquiry into the matter and submit his report within seven days.
The drawing teacher (33), a resident of Bahia village near here, is a married man, who had joined the co-educational school around a year ago, but he has been in service in the education department since 2001.
