Teen goes missing, family gets ransom call

Over a fortnight after a Class-10 boy had gone missing, it came into light that he was kidnapped, after his family got a ransom call on Saturday. But, when his parents went to Saharanpur railway station with the ransom, nobody turned up, following which they reported the matter to the police on Sunday.

Police have registered a case under section 356 (kidnapping) against unidentified accused.

Victim’s mother Sangeeta Bhatt of Salem Tabri said her son Harish Bhatt (16) had gone to visit his maternal uncle’s house at Saroop Nagar on October 21. But he neither reached his uncle’s house nor came back. Then, they started searching for him on their own, but to no avail.

She said, “On Friday they got a phone call for ransom. The caller claimed that Harish was in his possession, and if they wanted him back they had to pay ransom. The caller had called them to Saharanpur railway station, but nobody turned up.

Salem Tabri police station additional SHO Karamjit Singh Grewal said the police have initiated investigation and were trying to locate the caller.
