A 19-year-old boy ended his life on Friday morning by shooting himself with his father’s licensed revolver at Bhola Colony of the city. He died on the spot. The deceased, Arvind Kumar, was a student of mechanical engineering at Ludhiana Polytechnic College, Katani Kalan. His father Ramjit Kumar owns a polythene factory.
The reason behind the suicide has not been ascertained yet, but the family said he was under stress for the past few days.
Ramjit said Arvind found the revolver under a mattress and shot himself in the head on Friday morning. The family heard the gunshot but mistook it for a firecracker in the street. Ramjit’s daughter Shilpa was the first to see Arvind lying in a pool of blood.
The family rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Arvind was the youngest of four siblings. His elder brother is in his father’s business. One of his sisters is married, while the other is pursuing postgraduation.
The police filed proceedings under Section 174 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). The police handed over the body to the family after conducting postmortem at the civil hospital.
