A 17-year-old illiterate boy has been booked on the charge of raping a Class-4 student of Government Senior Secondary School, Sanghol, in the district. On the statement of the victim's father, who hails from Sabri Bholla village in Muzaffarnagar district (Uttar Pradesh) and is presently residing in Sanghol, the Khamano police registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the boy, who belongs to Lakh Bhambri village of Muzaffarnagar district and is also a Sanghol resident.

As per the complainant, when his 10-year-old daughter did not return home on August 29 after school, he and his wife started searching for her. They heard her cries in a field, where they saw the boy raping her. On seeing them, he fled from the spot.

Khamano station house officer (SHO) Palwinder Singh said the accused, a labourer, was arrested on Friday. He was presented in a Fatehgarh Sahib juvenile court, which sent him to the juvenile home in Ludhiana. He will be brought back here on September 2 for verification of his age. The SHO said the girl's medical examination was conducted on Thursday.
