A teenager allegedly shot himself with a single barrel rifle of his grandfather on Thursday afternoon. The boy has been admitted to SPS Apollo Hospital. The bullet hit him in his stomach.
Taranjit Singh, a resident of Street number 14 of Janta Nagar, has undergone a major surgery. His condition has been stated to be serious.
He used to work along with his father Gurpreet Singh in their factory that produces cartons and cardboard boxes. He is the elder of the two brothers.
The incident took place when Taranjit took out the rifle that belongs to his grandfather Ajit Singh from the almirah and locked himself in a room.
Taranjit's mother had sent her younger son to call him, but before he could do so, the family members heard a gunshot from the room.
The family, which broke the door to enter the room, found Taranjit lying unconscious in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound in the stomach. They rushed him to a hospital.
Atam Park ACP Mukhtiar Singh and inspector Balwinder Singh, SHO of the Simlapuri police station, reached the spot and initiated a probe. The police have confiscated the rifle.
No reason could be ascertained behind Taranjit's extreme step.
According to the police, Taranjit was not going to work since a few days and his mother had scolded him three days ago over a family issue.
"We are probing the matter, but things will be clear only after his statement," said inspector Balwinder Singh.
