The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Sunday accused the chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) and Adampur MLA Pawan Kumar Teenu of getting innocent Dalits implicated in false cases on latter’s refusal to join the Shiromani Akali Dal.

Kamal Dev Jandusingha, BSP’s district unit general secretary, in a press statement issued here alleged that Teenu, who started his political career as a BSP worker, recently got Nathpal Dhilwan, a dalit, booked in a false murder case for latter's refusal to enter into compromise with an Akali councillor, Balbir Singh Bittu, an accused in Vijay Kumar murder case, registered nearly four years back.

Kumar was allegedly murdered by Bittu during riots erupted after killing of Dera Ballan deputy chief Sant Ramanand in Vienna.

“Nathpal is main witness against the Akali councillor. It’s shameful that SAD dalit leader has been using police as a tool to unleash reign of terror on dalits,” he said, adding that several false cases were registered against dalits at Teenu’s behest throughout the district.

Jandusingha, who unsuccessfully contested Kartarpur assembly constituency as a BSP candidate, alleged that Teenu became pro-active in forcing BSP workers to join Akali Dal ever since Akali Dal hinted at fielding him as its candidate from Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat in coming general elections. “He is politically ambitious and a self centered-personality, who want to convert all the dalits into SAD fold so that he can get big prize from the SAD leadership,” he added.

The BSP also criticised Teenu, Sarwan Singh Phillaur, jail minister and Avinash Chander, CPS, (all of them dalit legislators from Jalandhar district) for keeping mum on arrest of Nathpal in a false murder case. “Teenu allegedly paid heavy amounts to woo two BSP block samiti members from Adampur so that he could ensure election of an Akali leader as chairman of Adampur block samiti. Though a BSP candidate won Wadala block samiti seat, but he was also made to join the SAD,” he said, adding that Dalits would oppose anti-people policies of the Akali Dal.

Sources said that Teenu had already made several inroads in the BSP and remained instrumental in defections at regular intervals. As Akali Dal was keen to get dalit support in coming general elections, Teenu was said to be instrumental in influencing even senior BSP leaders.
