Shimla and nearby areas like Kufri and Narkanda have been experiencing moderate rains. Picturesque tourist resort Manali saw the minimum temperature sliding to 4.8 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in the state capital was 8.4 degrees Celsius with overnight rainfall of 12.5 mm. Kalpa, 250 km from Shimla, and Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti district recorded the night temperature at minus one degree and minus 0.1 degree Celsius, respectively. Kalpa saw 27 mm rain, while it was 30.5 cm snow in Keylong, 41.2 mm rain in Manali and 16 mm rain in Dalhousie, which saw a low of 5.6 degrees Celsius.
The Met Office has forecast snow and rain across the state due to active western disturbance till Sunday.
Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, the met office forecasted fair weather from Sunday.
“Moderate rain and snowfall occurred during the night in Jammu and Kashmir. Weather will improve from tomorrow onwards,” an official of the meteorological department said.
There has been fresh snowfall during the night in Sonamarg, Gulmarg and Pahalgam. Rain lashed most of the Jammu region during the night.
“The minimum temperature was 14.5 in Jammu city on Saturday. It was 12.4 in Katra, 7.1 in Batote, 7.0 in Bannihal, 6.6 in Bhaderwah, and 13.6 in Udhampur town,” the official said. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Srinagar city was 2.8. It was 1.2 in Qazigund town, 0.3 in Pahalgam, and minus 2.2 in Gulmarg.
“Leh town recorded minus 4.5 while Kargil town in Ladakh region recorded minus 2.0 as the night’s lowest temperature”, he added.
