In blatant violation of election code of conduct, a close kin of former state BJP president Rajinder Bhandari is facilitating the construction of a temple in Raman Enclave of Maharaishi Valmiki Nagar.

Residents called up the HT reporter, who along with the camera man visited the spot on Monday, for verification. The construction was on and a woman was sitting inside the four walls of the structure supervising the labour. As soon as the HT reporter inquired about the construction, the woman seeing the cameraman started shouting and asked the labour to shove oust the reporter and close the gates.

The area residents alleged that the area has more than 3,000 votes and in order to appease a larger section interested in having a temple in the area and Bhandari availed the opportunity to get votes in lieu of financial help from the SAD candidate.

Contacted Bhandari refuted the allegations and said, “If there is some illegal construction going on the Improvement Trust officials should stop it immediately. I am not connected with the issue and neither is anyone else from my family.”

Meanwhile, XEN Pramod Shar ma expressed ignorance over the construction and also stated that it was not violation of model code of conduct, as the construction had started long ago.

Surprisingly, the XEN made this statement knowing that the construction on LIT land was illegal, as it had not been allotted to any individual or organisation. Moreover, soon after getting a call from HT, he sent his supervisor in the area to discontinue the construction, as was informed by the area residents.
