Kapurthala district police have booked 10 persons, including bridegroom, in connection with the marriage of a minor girl in January last. No arrest has been made so far.

The case was registered on a complaint of Nirmal Singh, father of 13-year-old girl who was allegedly married off to a Mansurwal Dona villager in connivance with her mother Sunita, who does not live with the family of the minor girl.

Nirmal Singh of Dera Lakhan Kalan village near Kapurthala had lodged a complaint in the SSP office that his wife with the help of Gurbaksh Singh of village Kudowal took her minor daughter away when Nirmal was not at home.

"Both started living near Chuharwal octroi post in Kapurthala along with the girl. Later, I heard that she had sold my daughter to Charanjeet Singh of Mansurwal Dona. She arranged the minor's marriage and later forced her to spend a night with Charanjeet Singh," he added.

"Somehow, my daughter sent me a message for help. I along with panchayat members from my village reached Mansurwal Dona and brought by daughter back," he further said.

After verifying the complaint, district police booked Sunita, Charanjeet, Gurbaksh, Balkar Singh (Sunita's father) and six other persons who assisted in the solemnization of the marriage under Section 376 of IPC and Section 10 of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
