Tension prevailed in the city following the exchange of fire between two Tarn Taran-based gangs at GT Road near New Amritsar on Sunday. The Amritsar city police have registered a case in this regard under sections 307, 382 and 34 of IPC at Sultanwind police station.

However, no arrests have been made in the case, though sources said that three persons have been rounded up.

According to police, the two gangs had been fighting on their way from Tarn Taran to Amritsar and resorted to firing at each other in Amritsar. Giving details, ASI Madan Singh of Sultanwind Police Station, said that the gang war took place between Inderjit gang and Ajgar gang. He added that a member of Ajgar gang sustained injuries in the incident.

"The injured, who is a member of Ajgar gang has been admitted to hospital for treatment," said the ASI. He added that both the gangs came to Amritsar through Jandiala bypass. "They resorted to firing when they confronted each other near Daburji village close to New Amritsar," he said.

He added that members of Inderjit gang fled towards Jalandhar side after firing at the Ajgar gang. "A case in this connection has been registered at Sultanwind Police Station. Efforts are on to trace the accused," he said.
