Tension in Batala village averted after Christians and Dalit clash

The situation became tense when some members of the Christian community allegedly demolished a portion of the community hall on which Dalits also lay their claim. The police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.

Tension prevailed in Basarpura village of Batala sub-division, when a clash was averted between two communities over possession of a community hall on Wednesday evening.

The situation became tense when some members of the Christian community allegedly demolished a portion of the community hall on which Dalits also lay their claim. The police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.

Batala SSP Deepak Halori said the police had received a complaint from village panchayat regarding the demolition of the community hall and they pacified both the groups and urged them to resolve the issue amicably.

Talking to mediapersons, village residents Makhan Singh, Balwinder Singh, Hardeep Singh alleged that members of the Christian community came with rods and hammers, broke the boundary wall and demolished a portion of the hall.

They alleged earlier also some members of the Christian community had tried to demolish the hall around a month ago, saying they would construct a church on the land.
