The ongoing tension within Pakistan has cast its shadow on the Indo-Pak peace mela organized annually by peaceniks as only two persons reached India for participating in it this time from across the border.

Although, the organizers had informed that six persons from Pakistan had got visa this time but only two could manage to reach India till Wednesday.

Notably, last time also the organizers had to cancel most of functions in year 2013 due to the high tension between India and Pakistan at that time. There were widespread protests in India in 2013 when five of the Indian soldiers were killed by Pak troops along the LOC.

This time also the rising tension within Pakistan and also the firing along the LOC has curtailed the number of visitors from across the border for this event.

As the various NGO’s including Hind Pak Dosti Manch, Folklore Research Academy start are also set for the functions, not many from Pakistan will be part of it.

As part of the Mela, the NGO’s will host a seminar on ‘Terrorism in South Asia and indo-Pak Ties’, a cultural evening and also a candle light vigil at the border on Thursday.

The annual Hind Pak Dosti Mela in 2012 had seen as many as 48 guests coming from across the border and participating in the events.

But since couple of years, the attendance from across the border has dropped in a big way.

Talking to HT, Ramesh Yadav, president of the Folklore Research Academy said, “The situation is very tense within Pakistan and this is the major reason for drop in number of guests from across the border. Other than this, there is tension between two nations also due incidents at LOC.”

However, our efforts are to press for peace and harmony and we try our best to continue with such melas.
