Even as sitting MP from Ludhiana Manish Tewari is not contesting the Lok Sabha polls on medical grounds, All India Congress Co mmitt e e (AICC) general secretary and Punjab Cong ress affairs incharge Shakeel Ahmad has indicated that the leader could be nominated as a Rajya Sabha member after the ongoing general elections.

Ahmad, who was here on Thursday to campaign for Congress candidate from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu, said Tewari was the brightest leader of the party and deserved to go to the Rajya Sabha. “Tewari is close to the high command and also qualifies for nomination to the Upper House” Ahmad said.

Replying to questions from mediapersons, Ahmad said Tewari had been ready to cont est from Ludhiana and his name had been cleared by the high command, but due to hospitalisation, he pulled out.

“Tewari told us that if he started campaigning without an operation – which was a must he could become unwell and may have to discontinue, which could dent the party’s prospects from Ludhiana,” said Ahmad.
