Ludhiana is set to become the fifth city in the country and the first in Punjab to have its own FM radio channel to be run by the country's public broadcaster, Prasar Bharti.
Union minister for information and broadcasting Manish Tewari will launch the FM Gold channel on August 16. Only the metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata have such an FM channel.
It will be available on 100.1 Mega Hertz. Initially, the programmes will be broadcast from FM Gold New Delhi. According to the national format, there will be two hours' local programmes in the morning and two hours in the evening. These will start in about two months' time.
The launch function, to be organised at Guru Nanak Bhawan here, will be presided over by Tewari and attended by senior officials of the I&B ministry and Prasar Bharti, among others. Top Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi will perform during a cultural programme on the occasion.
