Thefts at Chandigarh hotel weddings: MP gang under police lens

In recent thefts at weddings at two hotels recently, police have zeroed in on members of a Madhya Pradesh gang as the prime suspects. Teams of Chandigarh police have been dispatched to Madhya Pradesh to bust the hideouts of the suspects.

The police are digging up details of their past crimes as they are absconding in various cases registered in the city.

Police sources said two members who they suspect in these cases, along with two juveniles were arrested in January 2015.

At present, the procedure to declare them proclaimed offenders is in process as they have failed to appear before court.

Two major thefts were reported in two separate wedding functions in Chandigarh last week.

The first theft of `8-10 lakh was reported at Hotel Mount View Sector 10 on October 4, wherein an unknown person decamped with a bag containing cash and jewellery from the reception party of the son of SS Saini, president of Ludhiana’s Hero Cycles.

The second theft of a similar nature took place at Hotel Western Court in Sector 43, where, again, a bag containing around `2.97 lakh was stolen from a wedding function.

Harvinder Kaur of Sector 15, in her complaint said her bag containing cash and gift envelopes was stolen from the basement of the hotel where her son’s wedding function was on.

The police had then procured severel clues like the ClosedCircuit Television (CCTV) camera footage to carry the probe forward.

A case under the relevant Sections was registered.
