Thick fog engulfed Ludhiana and its neighbouring areas here on Thursday morning, bringing life to a halt and the temperature down.
The fog added to the traffic chaos on the narrow, congested roads of the city and cleared up only around 11am. Weather experts have predicted similar weather for tomorrow.
KK Gill, an official of the meteorology department of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), said there would not be any reprieve from the weather conditions. "According to the latest weather update with us, thick fog will continue to engulf the region till at least 10am or 11 am tomorrow.
By noon, the weather ill clear up and give way to bright sunshine," she said, adding that from February 1, the weather conditions were expected to improve.
Meanwhile, people commuting to work in the morning were a harried lot, and many got late. "I was late to work by an hour this morning," said Suresh Kumar, a resident of Ferozepur Road.
Kumar blamed the weather for his getting late to work and said that many others, too, were at the receiving end of the unforgiving weather conditions. "Many who could not reach work in time," he said.
On the other hand, milkmen and paperboys, too, could not make their deliveries in time. "It was not an easy ride, and the risk of an accident increases in these weather conditions, so I had to be very careful," said Kulbir Singh, a milkman. "At around 6am, visibility was next to zero," he added.
