A local court, on Sunday, remanded to three-day police custody Mohinder Gupta, a resident of New Ishar Colony, Suresh and Sanjeev of Danishmandan Basti, arrested by the city police for the alleged abduction of seven-year-old Gurpreet Singh Gopi.

They were arrested by various teams of the police on October 22 after recovering Gopi from Aligarh in Uttar Pardesh. The police are still on the lookout for the remaining two alleged abductors Kamal Kumar and Devki Nandan of Aligarh and the police are already in touch with the Aligarh police.
The police have already seized a mobile phone through which Gupta had sent an email to the family of Gopi and demanded a ransom of `15 lakh. The police had also recovered an Alto car used by them for kidnapping the child.

After abducting the boy on October 12 evening, the accused - Mohinder Gupta and Kamal Kumar - had taken him to Chintpurni and cut his hair to hide his identity.

Later, Kamal took the child to Aligarh via the Hoshiarpur- Meerut bus route and confined him in a house, while Mohinder returned to Jalandhar and started keeping a close watch on newspapers and police plans in this connection.

Mohinder, who has done BCom, had sent a courier to the house of the kidnapped boy from Phagwara using a fake Ludhiana address, demanding a ransom of rs15 lakh from the boy's family and asked them to contact him through email with their contact numbers.

After being informed by the boy's family, police officials answered Mohinder's email posing as a family member and traced the IP address of the email, said the police, adding, as Mohinder had sent the email from his smart phone, the IMEI (International Mobile Station Equipment Identity) number was put on the track.
