Police have booked three persons for firing at Gurjant Singh, who was shot in the leg at Bughipura village in Moga district.
"I was sitting at a common place in the village on Wednesday afternoon, watching a game of cards when a car pulled over. Four men alighted from it and opened fire without provocation. A bullet hit me in the right leg, after which the attackers drove away," the victim said.
Villagers took Gurjant to Moga civil hospital. Jagtar Singh, his father, said the family had enemy with none. "My family never argued with anyone," he said.
Gurjant was referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot on Thursday evening after his condition became critical.
Lakhwinder Singh, assistant sub-inspector of Mehna police, said a case against three people had been registered under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (act done with common intent) of IPCand Sections 25 (manufacture, sale, testing, and transfer of arms), 54 (consolidation and amendment of law) and 59 (possession of illegal weapon) of the Arms Act.
