Drugs took the life of 24-year-old Satinder Pal Singh, a resident of East Gobind Nagar, whose body was recovered a few days ago along the canal. Now, the Amritsar police have booked three persons, identified as Tejinder Singh alias Nitin of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Tarn Taran Road; Gurmukh Singh of Sultanwind Road and Jagandeep Singh of Sudershan Nagar, under sections 304, 20, 34 of the IPC at Sultanwind police station.

Sub-inspector Palwinder Singh, who is investigating the matter, said that the body of Satinder Pal Singh was recovered on August 2. He added that a day before the victim had visited the house of Tejinder Singh, where they consumed drugs, which left Satinder unconscious.

"The accused neither informed his parents nor did they get him admitted to a hospital and instead dumped him near a dera, where he died," he said. The police had conducted the last rites of the youth, who had not been identified by that time, after getting his post-mortem done.

The deceased was identified on the basis of documents recovered from his scooter, which was found parked in the vicinity of the spot where his body was found. The cops then approached victim's family. This had sparked quite a furore with victim's kin holding demonstrations against the police, charging them with custodial death, which the police officials had termed as 'baseless'.

The IO added that the police possessed all the phone call details of the conversations between the deceased and the accused. "The call details point to involvement of the accused in the matter. A case has been registered against them. Efforts are being made to arrest them. They are likely to be arrested soon," said the SI.
