Three Chandigarh students bag medals in Asian meet

Three shooters of DAV College, Sector 10 in Chandigarh, Yashaswini Singh Deswal, Malaika Goel and Gauri Sheoran, have made the country proud by winning medal in their respective age categories in the eighth edition of the Asian Air events championship at Karni Singh Shooting Range, New Delhi, on Wednesday.

All three, who are the first year students of the college, have won medals in the 10m air pistol events.

Yashaswini was part of the country’s gold medal winning team. The other two members of the squad were Heena Sidhu and Shweta Singh.

Yashaswini fired 387 in the initial round to qualify for the finals of the individual category, but there she finished fourth. She was competing for the first time in the finals of the seniors’ section.

Gauri Sheron, who was competing in the youth category, clinched silver in individual event.

Glasgow Commonwealth Games silver medallist Malaika won gold in the team event in the junior category.
