Three policemen including an assistant sub inspector (ASI) were suspended for allegedly beating up a banquet owner here on Monday.

The erring cops were allegedly in an inebriated condition.

On late Sunday, an accident case was reported near Virk Marriage Palace located on Kaithal road, near here.

As a police control room (PCR) van no 4 rushed to the spot, the police summoned the owner of the banquet Major Singh and his staff on the spot for help.

After the unknown accident the victim was shifted to the police van, the policemen asked Singh to accompany them to the hospital.

Showing his inability to go along with the accident victim, Singh offered to depute his employee for the assistance of the cops.

"The moment I turned down their instructions, the policemen in uniform got infuriated and started beating me mercilessly. They were under the influence of liquor and pushed my hair also," alleged the victim, a Sikh.

Singh submitted a medical report showing injury allegedly caused by the incident to the police on Monday.

Acting tough on the complaint, superintendent of police (SP) Shashank Anand placed ASI Madan Lal, head constable Surinder and constable-cum-driver of the PCR-4 Roshan Lal-under suspension and ordered a departmental probe.

"Such irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated at any cost. Strict action will be taken against the culprits," the SP said on Monday.
