Three cylinder blasts leave 5 hurt in Mohali

Three gas cylinder blasts in two separate incidents here left five people injured, two of them critically. The two severely injured have been referred to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).
The first blast took place at 12:30 am on Tuesday at a five-storeyed building in Shahimajra village in which five persons staying as paying guests have sustained injuries. Owing to the blast one of the injured fell off the fourth floor of the building. The second blast took place in a canteen of an IT company in Phase 8, Industrial Area. No one was hurt in the incident.
The injured from Shahimajra village incident have been identified as Varinder, Ashish, and Sandeep, all natives of Himachal Pradesh and Prateek and Sandeep, both from Patiala.
Even the windows were smashed due to the impact.
75 staying in 25 rooms
In the five-storeyed building there are about 25 rooms in which 75 youngsters are staying as paying guests.
Another blast in Industrial area
On Wednesday around 11:30 am, a blast took place in a canteen of an IT company run by one SP Singh in Phase 8, Industrial Area. No one was hurt.
Safety norms ignored
In both cases, fire safety norms were violated. In canteen fire, there were no buckets to douse the flame. The employees of the canteen used vessels to douse the fire. “We have asked the fire department to submit a report,” said Ram Darshan in-charge police post, Phase 8.
