A three-day youth festival of colleges affiliated to Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) began on the university campus at Sirsa on Friday.
Lala Lajpat Rai Veterinary Animal and Sciences University, Hisar, vice-chancellor Maj Gen Srikant and his wife Dr Ranjna inaugurated the festival.
In his inaugural address, Maj Srikant stressed these festivals play a vital role in the life of students and can help them improve their skills. He urged the students to take part in all the events and give their best.
CDLU vice-chancellor Radhey Shyam Sharma said most students of the CDLU hail from rural areas and these festivals provide a platform to them to overcome their hesitations and build confidence.
He added that for the first time the university is organising the youth fest on its campus and it has become possible because of the hard work of the staff.
Teams comprising more than 600 students from the 48 colleges from different districts are participating in the fest. The main attractions on the first day were group song (shabad/bhajan), group song (Indian), mimicry, one-act play, light vocal (Indian), Haryanvi folk song, choreography, cultural dances, western songs and Haryanvi cultural programmes.
