A local court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to gangster Daljit Singh Bhana, who was a close associate of slain gangster Sukha Kahlwan, and his two aides in a case of double murder of February 26, 2014, when six members of the gang allegedly opened fire at three young men, killing two, outside a gym in Tara Singh Avenue.
Bhana, who is a resident of Mithu Basti, Satish Gill of Baba Banda Bahadur Nagar, and Ranbir, Balbir Singh Cheema and Dalbir Singh Dalbira of Raj Nagar were produced in the court of an additional district and sessions judge. While Bhana, Satish and Ranbir got life imprisonment, Balbir and Dalbir were acquitted by the court.
For the murder of Simranjeet (23) and Deepansh (19), their friend Randeep (20), who was injured and remained in hospital for months, was the eyewitness.
After the verdict, Deepansh’s mother, Ashu, said she would appeal to the high court for harsher punishment.
Security at court
