Three held for pickpocketing

Police claimed to have busted a gang of pickpockets and recovered 25 mobile phones, three cars and Rs 54,000 from their possession here on Friday.

The accused had also stolen wallets of several Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders on the cremation of former Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Jagdev Singh Talwandi at Raikot on September 20.

The arrested accused have been identified as Johny, Amit Malhotra and Amit Sachdeva, while four members of the gang, including Sonu Mota, Jassa Moga, Harish Verma and Ricky, are absconding.

Sub-inspector Surinder Kumar, station house officer (SHO) at the PAU police station, said the accused were also involved in vehicle lifting. He said they had launched a manhunt to arrest the absconding accused.

He said the gang used to steal wallets and valuables of people at public places, fairs, political rallies and other crowded places.

The gang was active in Ludhiana, Delhi and Patiala. A case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused.
