Three persons were killed and two others were injured when a car they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck on the National Highway-1 near Malipur village near Doraha in the wee hours of Monday.

The deceased were identified as Rahul Khosla, 45, of Ashok Vihar in Delhi, his sister-in-law (wife’s sister) Ritu Trehan, 40, and her husband Savneet Trehan, 44.

The injured, Khosla’s wife Sapna, 42 and Ritu’s son Himang, 12, were admitted to a private hospital In Khanna.

Investigating officer Charanjit Singh said the families were on their way to Delhi after attending a wedding in Jalandhar. He said Savneet was behind the wheel while Rahul was in the co-driver’s seat. As they reached near Malipur village near Doraha, the car rammed into a stationery truck parked on the roadside.

The police struggled to remove the bodies and rescue the injured from the mangled remains of the car. A case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the truck driver, who is on the run.

The injured are not in a condition to give their statements to the police.
