Three young men

Three young men were killed in a road mishap near Mehngrowal village, 35 km from here, on Friday, after their Pulsar motorcycle was hit by a mini-bus. The victims have been identified as Gagan Thakur (22) and Surinder Singh (26), residents of Sainchan village in the district, and Rohit Mankotia (28), a resident of Kangra.

The three were close relatives and were coming from Mehngrowal village on a Pulsar motorcycle, when their bike was hit by mini-bus (PB 07 N 2516) coming from the opposite side, near a private school on the Hariana Road.

The three were rushed to the Hoshiarpur civil hospital, but were declared brought dead. The bodies were handed over to the kin on Saturday after a post-mortem.

One of those killed, Surinder, was married only a month ago. Heart-rending scenes were witnessed outside the mortuary where families and friends had gathered in large numbers.

The Hariana Police have registered a case against the bus driver Sajawal Singh under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving or riding on public way) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of `50 or more). The driver is absconding.

He managed to flee from the spot. Station house officer Tirath Ram said a hunt had been lodged for him.
