Three killed, eight hurt in Sangrur mishap

Three people were killed and eight were critically injured in a mishap involving two cars and a truck at Nagran village near Bhiwanigarh in Sangrur district on Saturday around 10pm

The deceased have been identified as Kewal Singh (35), a resident of village Pammipur in Mansa district and Suresh Kumar (21) ZEN and Chand Ram (19), both natives of Talwandi Sabo.

The incident happened around 10pm when vehicles of both Kewal and Suresh rammed into each other after unidentified truck driver collided with Suresh's car.

The deceased Kewal along with his family, was on his way attend religious procession at gurdwara near Bhiwanigarh, while Suresh accompanied by his four other friends was heading towards Patiala to pay obeisance at Kali devi temple.

Investigating officer Paramjit Singh said since vehicles of the deceased were going into same direction, Suresh tried to overtake Kewal's car, but filed to locate truck coming from opposite side.

Singh said seeing the truck, Suresh lost control and failed to control the speed of his car, which first hit the truck and then Kewal's car. The cars stopped after ramming into the tree.

The police said the deceased died on the spot, while injured were rushed to Patiala and Sangrur hospitals. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their family after post mortem.

"The case have been registered against unidentified truck driver on the complaint of Gurjeet Singh, Suresh's friend," the police said.
