Three killed in mishap, narrow escape for SGPC member

Three people, including an unidentified woman and a Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) task force member Nirvair Singh, were killed and four injured in a head-on collision between an Innova and a Chevrolet on the Chamkaur Sahib-Neelon road at Bassi Gujran village on Sunday evening.

Three people, including an unidentified woman and a Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) task force member Nirvair Singh, were killed and four injured in a head-on collision between an Innova and a Chevrolet on the Chamkaur Sahib-Neelon road at Bassi Gujran village on Sunday evening.

SGPC member Amarjit Singh Chawla, who was in the Innova, had a narrow escape in the mishap.

Chawla was on his way to Ludhiana from Anandpur Sahib. Chawla said he, along with his security guards and Nirvair, were to participate in a programme at the Nanaksar Kaleran gurdwara, on the Chamkaur Sahib-Neelon road, when the Chevrolet coming from the opposite direction collided with their SUV. The collision resulted in the death of two people in the Chevrolet.

Of these, one is the unidentified woman and the second is Hira Singh of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.

Another injured occupant of the car was referred to the Government College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh.

A security guard Harjinder Singh and Nirvair, who were travelling with Chawla, were also referred to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh. However, Nirvair succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

Class-12 student killed, sister hurt in accident

Morinda: A Class-12 student was killed and her sister injured in a mishap at the Tehsil Chowk on Morinda bypass about 11.30am when an unknown vehicle hit their Activa. Pawanpreet Kaur (18) and her sister Simranjit Kaur (14), of Badwali village, were on their way to Morinda. Pawanpreet is dead and Simranjit has been referred to GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Pawanpreet studied at Government Senior Secondary School, Morinda. A case has been registered.
