Three persons were killed in two separate road accidents in Patiala district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Rani Kaur and her son Harpreet Singh, a resident of Seoli village in Mohali and Daleep Singh, a resident of Kauli village on Patiala-Rajpura highway.
In the first incident, Ranjeet Singh, husband of the deceased Rani, complained to the police that a canter truck, which was being driven by Gurpreet Singh, resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, had rammed his bike near Mehmudpur barrier.
He said after the accident, the driver ran away from the spot and his wife and son succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.
A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Shambu police station on Tuesday.
Station house officer (SHO) Virinder Singh said the driver was nabbed on Wednesday and later released on bail. He added that the dead body was handed over to the family members after the postmortem at Ambala civil hospital.
In the second incident, Rajwinder Singh, son of deceased Daleep, alleged that while his father was on his way to a nearby village on his cycle, a Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC) bus (numbered PB 19 D 1506) rammed into the cycle and crushed his father to death.
The police registered a case under sections 279, 304A and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC at Kheri Gandian police station.
Investigation officer (IO) Sohan Singh informed that the driver fled from the spot but they had impounded the bus of Barnala depot in the case. He added that investigations are on to nab the culprit and they had established the contacts with the concerned depot to identify the driver.
